Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Beta Preview

Battlefield: Bad Company 2‘s marketing begs for comparisons to Modern Warfare 2. The little details in BC2‘s trailers — from the weapons, to the experience points, to the diagonal lines that show up on your cross hair when you shoot someone — bore similarities to Infinity Ward’s shooter. Loading up the BC2 beta, I expected a wannabe Modern Warfare. Instead, I was surprised by how BC2 felt. From Battlefield 2 to 2142 to 1943: the classes, big maps, and vehicles come together into a uniquely Battlefield experience.

As with every other game in the series, the chaos of a match hit me like a slap in the face.

Modern Warfare 2′s No Russian level certainly pushes the boundaries of disturbing actions portrayed in games. Does Infinity Ward take interactive story telling to a new level or simply grab attention with gratuitous violence?

Modern Warfare 2‘s Sabotage multiplayer mode is broken. Don’t get me wrong, I think MW2 is a very addictive multiplayer experience. The generous unlocks and leveling must be following an equation calculated by MMO gurus. I particularly like objective based modes because there are more opportunities for teamwork — and shooting people in the back when they’re distracted by objectives.

Nazi soldiers look a bit like the french foreign legion

The latest entry in the iconic Wolfenstein game series, simply titled Wolfenstein, had a lot of history to live up to. I have to say that story wise, the game succeeds in upholding the theme and feel of the series. However, the game play just doesn’t back it up.
