Austin developer InMotion Software released their iPhone dungeon crawler Catacombs this past Thursday on the iTunes store. The $.99 title embodies many genre standards while incorporating a dual stick directional movent and attack system unique to the iPhone’s touchscreen. We’ve got a trailer, gallery, and press release below.

Catacombs offers a standard “protect the homeland” storyline with three playable classes mage, warrior, and archer facing off against the forces of evil. First glances are reminiscent of Diablo due to the similar user interface. However in Catacombs the giant bulbs on either side of the screen are touchsticks instead of mana and health pools. The trailer below showcases the frantic pace and and artistic style found in many dungeon crawlers but the amount of polish looks as if it far exceeds iPhone expectations for a 24 level iPhone game.

InMotion is no stranger to iPhone games with titles like Dungeon Defense, Simon IQ, and I Dig It Expeditions under their belt. With Catacombs, the studio has entered a genre which has been difficult to master on the iPhone format. Initial reviews are thusfar positive with Catacombs garnering comparisons to the iconic dungeon crawler Gauntlet. Per usual, gamers will face off against hoards of monsters and baddies blasting or hacking their way through bodies with recklass abandon. Considering the format, Catacombs seems well worth the price tag.
